Miami Beach Through My Eyes (By Christina G.)

Back by popular demand! I'll be posting more pics from the original article shortly. :-)

You know what they say about dreams coming true, don't you? Well, let me tell you all, dreams do come true! Since I was a young child I had always dreamed of going to Miami, Florida. Finally, in February 2008, my dream came true! Not only did I get to stay in Miami Beach for a whole week, but I also accomplish another childhood dream. What is it you ask? Well, I had always hoped to see Enrique Iglesias perform in Miami, and I finally did. I know that I have known him since 1995 and have interviewed him, etc...there was nothing quite as special as accomplishing my dream.
The days leading up to my trip were filled with suspense, since I had never been on a plane before. I was nervous, but happy that I was going to Florida! The day we departed from Los Angeles International Airport was so exciting. Once up in the air, it was fun to look out the window at our nation's beautiful topography. Can you tell that I love Geography? The trip went smoothly, and after 4 hours and 45 minutes, we finally arrived at Miami International Airport. I must say that I was a bit sad because I was expecting to hear Will Smith's version of "Welcome to Miami, Bienvenidos a Miami," to be blarring from hot pink, flammingo speakers!!! (Cheesey, I know!)
The drive to our hotel was nice, because we got to see different parts of the city. After a short ride, we arrived at our desination, The Loews Hotel on Collins Avenue. The hotel is so impressive and beautiful. The hotel grounds are lush and green; while the rooms are impeccable. Not to mention that the staff is super friendly. Since we were tired from our flight we checked out the beach then went to have an early dinner.
During our 7 day stay we litterally walked everywhere! We venutred from Ocean Drive to Washington Avenue, to Espanola Way, to Lincoln Road, and Collins Avenue. Although we really enjoyed every part of South Beach, we favored Lincoln Road and the beach itself. The beach was so beautiful. The water and sand were so clean.
On our third day in Miami Beach, we saw Enrique at his performance for the Today Show right on the beach. It was extremely picturesque. Seeing him perform with the ocean as background was beautiful. He was so surprised to see us, because we've never, ever gone that far to see him. After his performance, he came to the poolside of our hotel and talked to us for a bit.
Even though our initial "pull" was Enrique...trust me, we really enjoyed our trip. Even if we wouldn't have seen Enrique, we still would have loved our trip. God willing, we'll be able to go back to Miami soon...and else where to continue traveling...which is my new found joy!
