Los Angeles, February 24, 2010 - The king of urban music and Latin superstar won top honors with a groundbreaking performance that had audiences on their feet until the early morning.
DON OMAR brought down the house at the Viña del Mar Music Festival, the biggest Latin music festival in the world, playing for more than two-hour show that continued into the wee hours of the morning at the audience’s request. The urban music star, who had already successfully performed at Viña in 2007, had promised a “glorious night” of music that would be the talk of the week-long Festival, and he came through.
Don Omar took the stage with a band of 16 musicians and nearly 30 dancers, playing a groundbreaking show that was equal parts spectacle and musicianship. For over two hours, the “Don” presented his greatest hits such as “Candela,” Dale Don Dale” and “Angelito” before an audience of more than 15,000 people who all danced non-stop. Don Omar opened the show with songs from his latest hit album, “IDON” featuring fireworks, explosions and his troupe of dancers, dressed as “androids” and painted electric blue from head to toe.
Forever exploring new music possibilities, Don Omar also invited onstage virtuoso pianist Arthur Hanlon with whom he performed a beautiful acoustic medley along with his orchestra.
When the “King of Kings,” finished his show, the audience refused to let him go, awarding him first the Silver and Gold torches, and finally the Silver Seagull (Gaviota de Plata), the highest honor awarded in Viña. Even after the television cameras stopped rolling; Don Omar continued to perform for fans that refused to leave the arena.
Earlier that week, Don Omar had received a platinum download for digital sales of over 75,000 copies of his album “Idon.” He will soon announce his plans for his new tour and new album.
