Farwell Pope John Paul II

Today is a very sad day. Pope John Paul II passed away at 9:37 pm (Italy Time), 11:37 am Pacific Standard Time. Born Karol Jozef Wojtyla in Wadowice, near Carcow Poland on May 18, 1920, Pope John Paul II was the first non-Italian pope in 445 years.

In 1987 when the Pope visited Los Angeles, California on September 15, 16, and 17th, I was too little to go to any of the events. I wanted to go, but it was too hard for my mom to take me and my baby sister alone...since my dad worked, we missed out on a chance of a life time. My thrill was when his helicopter flew over my house, on his way to the San Fernando Mission. I was outside in my front yard with my mom, sister, and next door neighbor, reflecting a little mirror at the low-flying helicopter so that the Pope would see me. Hopefully he did.

He will be greatly missed.
