Album Review: Alex, Jorge, y Lena...

By: Sylvia & Christina Grate

The self-titled debut album of the trio Alex, Jorge, and Lena adequately represents the musical styles of each artist, while at the same time combining such styles to create an eclectic compilation. The album contains 12 tracks that range from ballads, such as "Ya Sabes Como Soy," "Sobre El Suelo Mojado," and "Las Cosas Que Me Encantan," to upbeat tropical-infused pop songs, such as "Quien," " Mil Maneras de Querer," and "Mas Na' Contigo."

"Estar Contigo," the trio's first single, is a romantic heartfelt, ballad composed by Alex. This track can be easily recognized as being written by Alex, since it follows the typical lyrical and musical composition of his previous albums. This selection demonstrates the distinct vocal abilities of all three singer-songwriters, while achieving a smooth blend of voices, which is consistent throughout the tracks on the album.

With this album, Alex, Jorge, and Lena have demonstrated that they can go beyond their musical comfort zones without lacking consistency. One of the albums catchiest songs, "Si Ya No Tengo Tu Corazon," composed by Lena, is very rhythmic and tropical in nature. It is reminiscent of Gloria Estefan's Latin-infused pop-style. One would never have even imagined Alex singing a song like this; but, the outcome of the fusion was beyond brilliant and showed that when singers are comfortable working with one another anything is possible, musically speaking.

Overall, this album is a well-composed and exceptionally performed album. We would recommend this album to anyone who is tired of the "same old, same old" music present in the music industry. This eclectic album is refreshing and has something for everybody.
